Why Measure Body Fat?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a common metric, but it doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat. A bodybuilder and an inactive person might have the same BMI but very different health profiles.
Body fat percentage is a much more accurate indicator of fitness and health. It tells you exactly how much of your weight is fat tissue versus lean tissue (muscle, bone, organs, water).

How to Measure Accurately
To ensure the US Navy method works correctly, follow these tips:
- Neck: Measure below the larynx (Adam's apple), sloping slightly downward to the front.
- Waist: Measure at the navel level (belly button) for men, and at the narrowest point (usually above the navel) for women.
- Hip: (Women only) Measure the widest part of your buttocks.
