How to Calculate Concrete
Calculating the correct amount of concrete is crucial for project success. Ordering too little causes cold joints; ordering too much wastes money.
The Basic Formula
For a rectangular slab: Volume = Length × Width × Thickness.
Converting Units
Concrete is typically ordered in Cubic Yards (US) or Cubic Meters (International).
- Cubic Feet: Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Thickness (ft). Note: Thickness is often in inches, so divide inches by 12 to get feet.
- Cubic Yards: Divide Cubic Feet by 27.
This calculator automatically handles the unit conversions for you.
