Understanding Your Income
How is the hourly rate calculated?
We divide your total annual salary by the total number of working hours in the year. The formula is: Salary ÷ (Weeks per Year × Hours per Week). This gives you the most accurate pre-tax hourly rate.
Why should I adjust weeks per year?
If you take unpaid vacation or holidays that are not covered by your employer, you effectively work fewer than 52 weeks. Adjusting this number (e.g., to 50 weeks) gives you a realistic hourly rate for the time you actually spend working.
Is this result my "Take-Home" pay?
No. This calculator shows your gross hourly rate. Your actual "take-home" pay will be lower after federal taxes, state taxes, social security, and benefits deductions are withheld.
How to compare a salary job to an hourly job?
Convert your hourly offer to an annual salary by multiplying it by 2,080 (standard 40 hrs/week × 52 weeks). Then compare the benefits. Salaried positions often include perks like paid time off, health insurance, or retirement matching.
