Understanding the Relationship Between Speed, Distance, and Time
Speed, distance, and time are interconnected. If you know any two of these variables, you can calculate the third. The standard formula used is:
Distance = Speed × Time
Common Calculations
Calculate Speed
To find out how fast you traveled.
Speed = Distance / Time
Example: You drive 150km in 3 hours. Speed = 150 / 3 = 50 km/h.
Calculate Distance
To find out how far you traveled.
Distance = Speed × Time
Example: You run at 10 km/h for 0.5 hours. Distance = 10 × 0.5 = 5 km.
Calculate Time
To find out how long the trip takes.
Time = Distance / Speed
Example: You need to travel 200km at 80km/h. Time = 200 / 80 = 2.5 hours.
